Kawaha Point Lodge, Rotorua

Kawaha Point Lodge, was the winner of the 2007 New Zealand Tourism Industry Awards. The Lodge, which has won a host of other awards, offers luxury accommodation right on the edge of Lake Rotorua with a backdrop of mature gardens punctuated with old and new varieties of roses. An exclusive feature is the private jetty that enables professional fishing guides to collect guests interested in fishing for rainbow and brown trout, The Lodge, which holds the New Zealand Beef and Lamb Hallmark of Excellence, is fully licensed. Dinner is a gourmet affair using locally sourced produce prepared by the Michelin-trained, resident chef. Each of the eight, luxuriously furnished rooms has superb lake and garden vistas, and a swimming pool in the gardens is surrounded by sun-lit terraces where guests may choose to unwind and relax.

• Helicopter trip to White Island, still an active volcano
• Travel by boat or helicopter from the Lodge to Mokoia Island, New Zealand’s largest inland Island Wildlife Sanctuary home to the Kiwi, Saddleback and Kokako
• Te Urewera Walk a one day guided walk into a remote and magnificent rainforests with a Maori Guide, seeing native birds and magnificent native trees

• Visit the Outdoorsman Headquarters for the largest selection of clothing for, hunting, fly fishing or golf
• The Te Puia Gift Shop for locally made ceramics, cosmetics, jade and Maori artefacts
• A print from the Jeanette Blackburn Gallery – Jeanette is the recipient of many awards
• Her painting The New Zealand Huia was presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to commemorate her 2002 Golden Jubilee visit
